Finance is not a scary monster… it’s a tail-wagging Golden Retriever desperate to rescue you from the rubble!
“I know nothing about proper financial management, therefore I am terrible at it and I hide form it hoping for the best”
Sound familiar? I can pull you out of the finance terror spiral. With me, your sh*t will be together, in a spreadsheet you’ll be able to read.
Hi, Susie here
I’m a business finance expert who speaks “creative.” I’m actually fluent in it, no accent!
After turning down a career as a professional dancer, I chose the much more exciting and satisfying path of becoming a Finance Director. I’m serious!
I love all things finance and business: I revel in taking unprocessed, messy financial data and transforming it into helpful and meaningful information that creative leaders and business owners like you can use to make decisions for their company’s future.
With a flick of my magic wand (read: proper resources, knowledge, and systems 🤓) your business’ finances will turn from a smelly old pumpkin into a bautiful carriage (a joyful tool for growth) so that you can go to the ball and smooch the prince (make your creative business flourish.)
I have 10+ years of experience being a Finance Director at some of the best creative organisations in the UK, including Improbable (co-creator of national hit “My Neighbour Totoro” Show), the Park Theatre, the Yard Theatre, Assemble, and Company of Others.
Now, with Finance Fairy Godmother, I am on a mission to upskill small business owners who don’t have a business background, and are in desperate need of levelling up their finance knowledge.

Here’s what you need to know
about my approach…
Everyone knows that the financials are important. Not knowing how to read a profit and loss report or a balance sheet is like a GP not knowing how to read blood tests: you’ll come up with a pretty unreliable diagnosis, and won’t know what to fix, nor how.
And more than that, with no financial awareness you’ll run the risk of making the wrong strategic decisions, and running out of cash (or out of business.)
Through my finance fairy godmotherly magic touch, (aka my training and consulting), I can educate you on how to eat up financial reports for breakfast, and finally know what everyone in the boardroom is talking about when it comes to the company’s financial position and future.
And while we’re at it, let’s increase those profit margins! By the way: when you work with me you won’t want to rip your toenails out, or shut down and float above your body. I promise you that my enjoyment of my job is contagious and you’re in great hands.
The most recurring feedback I receive after working with my clients is: “Dare I say, that was fun!”
The Finance Fairy Godmother
Values
We make the Serious Stuff fun
Finance has a bad rap: most of the people I serve see it as a necessary evil, a sharp-toothed monster ready to bite your ankles as soon as you leave your comfort blanket. I’ll show you that actually, finance is a fluffy, tail-wagging golden retriever who’s desperate to dig you out of the rubble. Trust me, it’s fun over here!
Remove fear with knowledge, and doubt with action
If you’re reading this, you probably know that you’re missing some information that would make you an unbeatable beast of a creative leader. And that’s great! Whatever you’re scared about (systems, reports, financial data), give yourself permission to run towards it, I’m here to catch you if anything bad happens. (But nothing bad will happen, it’ll be 100% great.)
Perfection is a myth, we aim for progress
Nobody can make anything *perfect*, and even if we could, running a business should always include a level of tolerable messiness, otherwise we’d never get started in the first place. What we want is to improve, look for blind spots, and always keep learning.
Nothing is too complex to be simplified.
My clients give me lovely feedback about how I’m able to break down complex information into digestible nuggets that are easy to swallow. This is only possible because I understand this stuff deeply. If you can’t explain it, you don’t understand it.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
If we work together expect big change, but it won’t happen all at once. That’s too much pressure. Progress will happen incrementally over time. Like any meaningful transformation in life, it simply can’t happen overnight… but then one day you’ll look back and see how far you’ve gone.
Fun Facts about me
-
I USED TO BE A DANCER
My first job was in the contemporary dance company I trained with. It was a wonderful experience, but I soon realised that I was much more in my element behind the scenes rather than on stage!
-
I SOMETIMES LIVE IN A VAN
My husband and I bought our motorhome in 2022 (after carefully budgeting and saving for it for a year!), and we spend a few months per year living in it. You can follow me on the ‘gram for some finance and vanlife content!
-
I HAVE A DOG CALLED TANGO
Tango is the best and smartest of creatures. Maybe a bit too smart. We got him in 2020 and I don’t even remember how life was before him. He is active, clever, loves chewing toys, and running after squirrels!
-
I HAVE (TOO) MANY HOBBIES
I love hobbies! I enjoy learning new skills and faffing about with creative stuff. My hobbies are: writing, playing the ukulele, cross-stitching, drawing, cooking & baking, watching feel-good shows over and over again, and annoying people with my friendship. If I had more time, I’d like to learn the piano, write some more, and learn swing dance!
